Good intentions like losing weight, going back to school for that degree or even writing a book are just meaningless without action.
I can state the following with the certainty of a man holding four aces…
If good intentions were of any importance…other than bringing a false sense of comfort to the delusional….well, everybody would be skinny, happy and rich.
On a global scale, there is a chronic disconnect between intentions and results, as the goals that companies and individuals set for themselves often bare little resemblance to the results that they actually achieve.
EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE
Intentions and results are like efficient and effective. Efficient is doing things on time with the required resources and effective is getting the results.
There is a critical difference between intentions and results.
The fact is…
- Intentions have never once put food on your table, or clothes on your family.
- Intentions have never put muscle on your body, nor helped you to run a marathon.
- Intentions have never paid down a single shillings of your debt, nor will they pay for your car, mortgage, or…..
- Intentions have never taken your family on a cruise or vacation.
And, intentions have never once helped you to learn a new language, play the guitar, nor build a successful business.
While good intentions appear to be honorable…they are actually quite deceptive as too many people think intentions are the same as results.
You have one and only one shot at this thing called life, and to make the most of it, you must stop talking about all the things you intend to do…and actively start doing them.
We do not get paid for intentions or wishful thinking…we’re on the payroll to deliver results. The ability to do so consistently, honorably and with relative speed is the key skill that allows you to make your dreams come true.
Read this next line slowly…
Your results serve as judge, jury and executioner of your performance.
This truth applies exactly the same way to a sales person’s ability to meet or exceed quota, to a student’s ability to maintain good grades in school, to a Coach’s ability to build a winning record, as well as to a parent’s ability to raise strong, healthy, self-confident children.
There is absolutely NO EXCEPTION to this rule…and the sooner you accept that reality, the sooner you start making big things happen in your life and career.
In the end, your performance as a husband, wife, entrepreneur or employee will be judged by your results and in the manner in which those results were generated.
